Actuarial Science

One Pager
Presentation

Actuarial science is the discipline that applies mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk in insurance, finance, and other industries and professions. More generally, actuaries apply rigorous mathematics to model matters of uncertainty. Actuaries are professionals trained in this discipline. Employment of actuaries is projected to grow 18 percent from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. Actuaries will be needed to develop, price, and evaluate a variety of insurance products and calculate the costs of new, emerging risks.

Anesthesiologist

One Pager
Presentation

Anesthesiologists are involved in the times before surgery, during surgery, and after surgery. Before surgery, typically an anesthesiologist will be involved with preoperative evaluation, collecting patient history, performing physical examinations, and performing lab tests to decide what the best route of anesthesia is. During surgery, they ensure the patient stays well and safe by monitoring and controlling the patient’s vital signs and level of consciousness. After surgery, they monitor the effects of anesthesia, oftentimes directing technicians, nurses ,and other staff to help with pain control. They can also partake in researching, training new physicians, and managing pain outside of surgery.

Astronomer

One Pager
Presentation

Astronomy is the study of celestial objects, space, and the physical universe in total. It is a broad study of space and the planets and all the other non earthly bodies and phenomenons. Similar to astrophysics it focuses on the movements and behavior of planets. To summarize modern astronomy looks at the characteristics and movements of these differences masses in space.

Astrophysicist

One Pager
Presentation

Astrophysics is a joint branch of the fields of astronomy and physics that works to combine the laws and observations of both fields into a cohesive understanding of the many different celestial bodies in the universe. More simply put, it uses the laws of physics to help explain what astronomers observe about space and the many different things in it.

Biomedical Informatic

Cardiothoracic Surgeon

One Pager
Presentation

Cardiothoracic or cardiovascular surgeons deal with diseases of the chest. Typically, that's heart disease for patients who are having heart attacks and chest pains, and coronary artery disease for patients who are experiencing abnormalities of the arteries, valves and blood vessels feeding the heart.

Chemist

One Pager
Presentation

The study of matter and its properties, chemists could be designing and maintaining nuclear reactors should they choose nuclear chemistry. They could also work on the pharmaceutical side, attempting to create drugs. Other responsibilities include keeping up with the latest advances in the field, keeping documentation of work, and publishing works.

Clinical Lab Scientist

One Pager
Presentation

Not to be confused with medical lab technologists, clinical lab scientists are responsible for analyzing and performing tests on patient samples such as blood, urine, and other bodily fluids. They report their results to physicians to help in the diagnosis process.

Computer Science

One Pager
Presentation

Computer Scientists use technology and write computer programs in order to creatively and efficiently solve problems. They sometimes also develop models for human-technology interaction, which involves AI and machine learning. Their overall goal is to create software to solve a problem, or make technology more efficient.

Environmental Scientist

One Pager
Presentation

Environmental science is an interdisciplinary academic field that draws on ecology, geology, meteorology, biology, chemistry, engineering, and physics to study environmental problems and human impacts on the environment.

Flavor Chemist

One Pager
Presentation

The job of a flavor chemist is to support the manufacturing of foods and beverages by creating and testing various chemicals to create flavorings in order to best suit it to the consumer. They study various flavorings, synthesize chemicals in a lab, and test different flavor combinations. In addition, they mostly work in a laboratory environment and collaborate with other flavor chemists and lab personnel in order to gather data and run many tests in a multitude of chemicals and flavorings.

Fluid Dynamicist

One Pager
Presentation

Fluid Dynamics is the study of gases and liquids and how they behave under the influence of forces. Fluid dynamics provides methods for studying the evolution of stars, ocean currents, weather patterns, plate tectonics and even blood circulation.

Forensic Scientist

One Pager
Presentation

Forensic scientists examine and analyze evidence from crime scenes and elsewhere to develop objective findings that can assist in the investigation and prosecution of perpetrators of crime or absolve an innocent person from suspicion. The field of forensic science draws from a number of scientific branches, including physics, chemistry, and biology, with its focus being on the recognition, identification, and evaluation of physical evidence. It has become an essential part of the judicial system, as it utilizes a broad spectrum of sciences to achieve information relevant to criminal and legal evidence. Forensic scientists perform both physical and chemical analyses on physical evidence obtained by crime scene investigators and law enforcement officials at the crime scene.

General Dentist

One Pager
Presentation

A general dentist is your primary care dental provider. This dentist diagnoses, treats, and manages your overall oral health care needs, including gum care, root canals, fillings, crowns, veneers, bridges, and preventive education. General dentists also complete exams, x-rays, dental cleanings, and much more.

General Surgeon

One Pager
Presentation

General Surgery is a subspecialty in invasive medicine that focuses on the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. It is a main branch of the surgery field in medicine. A general surgeon is trained to diagnosis illness, preform pre-operative care, surgically repair abdominal organs, and perform post-operative care. They walk patients through their diagnosis, operation, and even care for them after the completion of the patients surgery.

Geneticist

One Pager
Presentation

Geneticists study genes and the science of heredity (inherited traits passed down through generations). They conduct experiments to determine the origins and governing laws of particular inherited traits, such as medical conditions, and seek out determinants (such as disease resistance) responsible for these traits.

Marine Biologist

One Pager
Presentation

Marine Biologists study organisms and their environment in salt water conditions. They conduct their own research by observing organisms in the wild and using a laboratory. There are lots of options in marine biology, such as hatcheries, microbiology in the ocean, or marine mamals.
